"Joey, you're not using the finger quotes right."

"Sorry, Ross!"

Here is my next new favorite blog, The "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks. I hope all the people I work with get a kick out of this "blog"! ;)

I found this blog via Cake Wrecks, and even though I read all the archives of Cake Wrecks in one sitting, I don't know if I'll be able to catch up with all the posts on this one, since there are about 1500! I did flip through quite a few tho, and they are pretty funny.

Why are "people" so apt to "misuse" the "punctuation" in the sentences they "write"? I bet this blog will drive the super proofreaders in my life crazy! I'm not sure how much I should make fun of these people though. I've realized that I tend to overly use ... AND ! in my writing. Anyhoo .... go check it out!

I think there is something about the fact that we all communicate much more non-verbally now than in times past. It's hard to tell what a person wants to emphasize when you can't hear them, so they use punctuation unnecessarily to get their point across. I find I use ! way too much, and probably quaotation marks as well. And I don't even text, and remain committed to real English, not some sort of electronic shorthand, to communicate.
